It’s World AIDS Day 2021—an opportunity to remember those who we have lost, the advances that have been made, and the work that still needs to be done to end the HIV epidemic.
Stark HIV-related inequities persist and Black and Latina men who have sex with men and Black and Latina cis and trans women in the U.S., continue to be disproportionately impacted by HIV. The COVID-19 pandemic has further complicated efforts to end the HIV epidemic. However, we have the tools we need to end both; we need the political will and resources to do so.
As tennis superstar and HIV advocate Arthur Ashe said during remarks on World AIDS Day in 1992
“We want to be able to look back and say to all concerned that we did what we had to do, when we had to do it, and with all the resources required.”
